What are the common precision castings, investment casting, solid casting,Sand casting,Ceramic casting

What are the common precision casting methods? Precision casting generally refers to the investment casting, pressure casting, sand casting, ceramic casting solid casting. These casting methods allow for the casting of more precise and smooth surfaces. It reduces or eliminates the need for cutting, thus saving manpower and metal.

  Investment casting

Investment casting is a type of precision casting. Investment casting is also called “lost wax casting”. Investment casting is made by molding a fusible mold into a molding (mold) of precision. The mold is smoothness. Then install it as a module. A fluid coating prepared by using a refractory material. A temperature-resistant binder is applied to the module and refractory sand is sprinkled on the coating to harden it into a shell. This is repeated several times to form a multilayer shell. The shell is heated to melt and flow the mold, and after the shell is fired, the casting can be carried out. The casting is obtained after the solidification and the like. Since investment casting is a deep molding method using an integral casting mold. So a molding box is not required. Without the parting surface, the parts produced can reach 7-9 precision and 4-5 grade finish. It can achieve less cutting and no cutting purposes.
The disadvantage is that there are many production processes and a long cycle. It is suitable for the production of small and medium-sized parts, thin-walled parts and complex castings of various alloys.

  Sand casting

Steel, iron and most non-ferrous alloy castings can be obtained by sand casting. Because in sand casting the molding materials used are cheap and easy to get. So the castings are Easy to manufacture. It can be adapted to the single-piece production, batch production and mass production of castings. For a long time, it has been the basic process in casting production.

  Ceramic casting

Ceramic casting is a type of precision casting. Ceramic type casting is a ceramic refractory material formulated from a refractory material, a binder, a catalyst. The method of casting the surface-formed mold is called “ceramic casting”. The characteristics are accurate casting size, smooth surface. It can achieve less cutting or no cutting purposes.
So it can shorten the production cycle, save metal materials and reduce costs. Suitable for casting thick-walled large and medium-sized precision castings or molds (such as die-casting molds, forging dies, stamping dies, etc.).

  Solid casting

Real casting is also called polystyrene foam casting. Solid casting is a new casting process in the 1960s. The model is made by replacing the wood mold or the gold mold with polystyrene foam. And the model is placed in a sand box, and the sand is filled with the molding sand. The casting can be carried out without pulling out the mold. After the metal liquid is injected, the foam is rapidly burned and vaporized. The molten metal replaces the position occupied by the original foam plastic model and solidifies into a casting.
The advantages are: saving wood, reducing labor intensity, no need for drawing, repairing, boxing, baking, etc.
